At Darden, one way women can find leadership and networking opportunities is through our local chapter of the National Association of Women MBAs. The women at Darden involved with NAWMBA organize several workshops every year providing support and education to everyone in the Darden community. NAWMBA also connects all of our female students to successful alumnae and other women business leaders. The women at Darden make an impact both inside and outside our school. The Darden NAWMBA chapter is the largest financial contributor to our local women’s shelter for help and emergency. Darden is one of the few MBA programs that provide dedicated career services resources for its alumni. The Alumni Career Services staff understands the career path of a woman may not always look like that of her male counterparts. Our professional staff provides Darden alumnae with programming and support as they “step-in” and “step-out” of the work force. They have offered re-entering the workforce workshops in Washington, DC, Atlanta, Chicago and most recently London. More information about Darden can be found at darden.edu. The Simmons School of Management has established the premier

School of Management alumnae decided to organize an annual event that
would be part reunion, part continuing education. The result: the
school’s first professional development conference that brought together
150 or so women business leaders from the Boston area. Hugely
successful, the conference immediately became a local institution and a
prime networking event. Now with such high-profile keynote speakers as
Oprah, Queen Latifah, Christiane Amanpour, Dr. Maya Angelou and this
year, Gloria Estefan, attendance draws an international audience- not
only Simmons alumnae, but also the general public. Working Woman
magazine has declared the event "one of the top conferences for your
money!"
The SOM has also established the innovative Center for Gender
Organizations where we analyze how gender is embedded in an
organization's work practices and culture. Analyzing an organization
through a gender lens creates opportunities to identify systems,
practices, and norms that make it difficult for different groups of
women (and often men) to be optimally effective. Our work with many
organizations shows that performance is enhanced by gender equitable
workplaces that enable both women and men to be productive contributors.
