Listening First: How Bose Tunes In to Talent Through Authentic Connection

At Bose, the same clarity that defines its sound defines how the company listens to people. Recruiting starts with curiosity, energy, and shared purpose. Through its partnership with Forté, Bose has found that the strongest connections often begin quietly, in a virtual chat, a thoughtful follow-up, or a genuine conversation that continues beyond the event.

With about 2,500 employees across Boston, Atlanta, and Detroit, Bose combines a global presence with a people-first approach to talent. Since joining Forté in 2023, the company has participated in three Virtual Career Fairs (soon to be four) and remains active in the Forté leadership community.

The partnership aligns with Bose’s belief that leadership potential should be nurtured. When the team meets exceptional candidates, they keep the conversation open and look for opportunities that fit both the individual’s skills and the company’s evolving needs. As an engineering-focused organization, Bose values Forté for providing access to women who are pursuing advanced business education and seeking workplaces that prize innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.

Each Forté Virtual Career Fair gives Bose’s recruiting team a chance to connect with talented professionals who may not fit an immediate opening but share the company’s values and vision. To make those connections authentic, the Talent Acquisition team partners with members of Women@Bose, offering candidates more than just information about open roles.

“The ERG really focuses on what it’s like to be an employee of Bose and part of Women@Bose,” explains Shannon Seder, Senior Recruiter for Global Consumer Marketing. “It’s worked well to show that sense of community.”

That authenticity is what helps moments at career fairs turn into long-term relationships. One of those conversations began with Forté Fellow and FUQUA MBA Jessica Stark, who met the Bose team at a Virtual Career Fair, stayed in touch after the event, and later joined the company. Within a year, she advanced into a new role that better aligned with her strengths and Bose’s evolving business needs - proof that when Bose connects with the right talent, growth follows naturally.

In just three Virtual Career Fairs, Bose has already seen measurable results. Beyond two successful hires, each event has expanded the company’s visibility among women pursuing leadership and technical careers.

Seder says that while hiring is always a strong outcome, the larger goal is connection and engagement. “We want women at any stage of their leadership journey to know that Bose offers a highly collaborative environment where they can grow, learn from others, and unlock their potential.”

Stark’s experience is one example of that philosophy in action: an early conversation that evolved into a lasting career match built on shared purpose.

Bose continues to strengthen its partnership with Forté as it begins working with a new event management and CRM system designed to keep in touch with high-potential candidates more effectively. With each event, the team refines its approach, expands its reach, and deepens its investment in relationships that grow into leadership.

Because at Bose, recruiting isn’t about filling roles. It’s about listening for potential, and turning connection into opportunity.
